George Lucas' contributions not only to Lucasfilm but filmmaking in general are unparalleled and there's a reason why the mastermind behind the Star Wars franchise is one of the most celebrated figures in Hollywood. These days, Lucas no longer has control and say over the Star Wars universe but he still remains one of the creative influences behind projects like The Mandalorian. In fact, he even showed up during the filming of Season 2's Ahsoka Tano-centric episode.

Now, Lucas' life and career will be chronicled in a new docu-series which will be helmed by a familiar colleague from a galaxy far, far away. Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan is set to work on an upcoming six-part documentary centered on Lucas and Industrial Light and Magic.

Kasdan last worked on Solo: A Star Wars Story and while he previously stated that his days being involved in Star Wars-related projects are over, he obviously couldn't pass up on the opportunity to work on something that will honor his good friend. Composer James Newton Howard revealed the exciting project during an appearance on Score: The Podcast (via ComicBook).

By no means is George Lucas a faultless creator but despite his questionable creative decisions over the course of his illustrious career, you can't deny the fact that his crowning achievement is taking science fiction to the next level. I mean, go back and watch the original Star Wars film and tell me it no longer holds up. That's a complete lie.

Meanwhile, Season 3 of The Mandalorian is expected to begin filming this month.
