Star Wars: Empire At War May Be Getting A Sequel

The 2006 real-time strategy video game Star Wars: Empire At War could return in the future with a sequel.

Petroglyphs Games, who developed the much-loved title, has reportedly spoke to Electronic Arts about the possibility. This was confirmed by the studio's executive producer Ted Morris in an email he sent in response to a Reddit user by the name of megajake95.

For those who don't know, back in November last year, EA tapped Petroglyph to remaster the1995 hit Command & Conquer, along with the sequel and the expansion packs.

This collaboration has rekindled the interest for the return of Star Wars: Empire At War, which only received one expansion pack before it was completely abandoned. While the multiplayer was made available again via Steam, fans, including the Reddit user, hoped to have something new.

"We would certainly love to work on a sequel to EAW and we've discussed this with EA," Morris wrote. "I think there is some interest there but they want us solely focused on C&C remaster for the moment. If anything comes out of it, we'll definitely let everyone know," he went on to say. There is no word on when the Command & Conquer remaster will be released, but it looks like this will be what Petroglyph will be doing in the coming months. Perhaps if it turns out to be a success, EA might consider teaming up with Petroglyph for a full-on sequel to Star Wars: Empire At War.

Star Wars fans seem to be getting more and more inclined to see new video game content from past developers that created excellent titles before the Disney acquisition. Some feel that EA is not doing the franchise justice. When it first came out, Star Wars: Empire At War was considered as "the true Star Wars experience" that hardcore fans of the long-running series truly loved. To some, this magical element is what's lacking in the new releases.

For now, fans will just have to be patient. A mod for the original Star Wars: Empire At War might help with what may be a long wait. You can download it and indulge in what is essentially an improved remaster of the title but with brand new ship units plus deeper gameplay. Check it out here.
