Star Wars: Dave Filoni Reveals How George Lucas Helped Him Prepare For The Mandalorian

Dave Filoni has already established himself in the Star Wars Universe with his animated shows that have captured the imagination of thousands of fans. But can he bring that magic into a live-action series? The Star Wars Rebels executive producer has admitted that his work on The Mandalorian had a lot to do with what George Lucas has taught him.

Filoni recently spoke to IGN about working on The Mandalorian, which is his first live-action project. Not surprisingly, Filoni credits the Star Wars creator for helping him find his way in managing the Disney+ series.

"I was taught by George and there are a lot of things that I want to do with Star Wars, that I feel make something feel like Star Wars and very classic," Filoni said. "But of course everything I was doing was the first time I was doing it, in a way, because it's live-action. So while it's a world that's familiar to me, it was a medium that was not as familiar to me— though George had prepared me well over the years with his training."

Lucas was not the only one who helped Filoni with the project. He also cited creator Jon Favreau and the show's director of photography Greig Fraser for their guidance.

"I was fortunate to have Jon, people like Greig Fraser on board to help guide me through the process and help realize what I was trying to do shooting-wise and performance-wise. So that was all a challenge, but an exciting one," Filoni said.

Lucas' influence on Filoni is evident in his animated shows and will hopefully be seen again in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars that will air on Disney+ next year. Either way, we're already looking forward to what Filoni has done for The Mandalorian later this year.

The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ on November 12.
