Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Promises a More 'Adult Approach' in The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is making its way to cinemas later this month, and fans couldn't be any more excited. There's a lot riding on the film. Not only is The Rise of Skywalker closing the curtain on the current trilogy of the Star Wars franchise, but it also serves as the culmination of the entire Skywalker saga.

There are so many questions that need answering. Will The Rise of Skywalker reveal Rey's (Daisy Ridley) true origin? Will Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) really find redemption? How in the world is Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) going to return from the dead in Episode IX?

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on People TV, the cast of The Rise of Skywalker talk about what fans can expect from the upcoming film. According to Rey actress Daisy Ridley, the film is "a more measured, adult approach to the Star Wars journey" when compared to Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

We're not sure whether this means that The Rise of Skywalker is going to be much more serious than the first two sequel trilogy entries, but we've seen a few jokes popping here and there in the many different promos for the upcoming Star Wars movie (the "they fly now" joke didn't quite land among fans).

Aside from a more adult story, Ridley also talks about how the film is going to explore the strange connection between Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), the estranged son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher). It seems like that relationship may very well take centerstage in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
