Star Trek: Picard Actor Jonathan Frakes Hopes Riker Will Return in Season 2

There is little doubt that Trekkies loved it when Will Riker returned to Enterprise and led his own ship in the first season of Star Trek: Picard. But what are the chances we'll get to see Riker in action all over again in Season 2? Jonathan Frakes may have revealed that the character's fate is still unclear.

Frakes was recently a guest on the TrekGeekspodcast along with Picard co-stars Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner. Not surprisingly, Frakes admitted that he would love to see Riker still taking command of the USS Zheng He in the second season since this was his favorite scene.

"I did find myself getting into the lean as soon as I sat down," Frakes said. "I liked that scene actually."

So does this mean Riker will be back next season? Frakes was careful with his answer, choosing to praise Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon and Alex Kurtzman.

"I thought the writing was clever. I was wary of when they had gone to the well to have Riker show up again because he had said he had left Starfleet. But I think between Akiva, and Chabon, and Alex, they cleverly wove it into the story," Frakes said before finally confirming he wants to be in Season 2.

"I hope that we see him again. I certainly hope to have the spacesuit on again," he said.

We can't really blame Frakes for wanting to be a part of Picard Season 2. From what we've heard, he clearly enjoyed working on the series both as an actor and a director. Needless to say, we're also hoping that Riker's storyline is far from over.
