Square Enix Hopes That Marvel's Avengers is Better Than Spider-Man PS4

While it currently has a mixed reaction from fans, mostly due to the character models, we're all still hoping that Marvel's Avengers ends up being a great game. Crystal Dynamics, who handled the excellent Tomb Raider reboot, has a good reputation and will probably give us a solid title that will provide hours of fun. The fact that it will constantly be updated with new characters, missions, and locations is also a great incentive.

But how good does Square Enix want it to be? According to an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, they want it to be better than Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man. Considering how many consider that to be the best Marvel game ever made (even the best superhero game to some), that's a high goal to reach.

Here's what Yosuke Matsuda, the president of Square Enix, had to say about his hopes for the game:

"Spider-Man was a huge title and a major success, so we would like to work hard to have that kind of success. So I guess it did increase my expectations [for Avengers]. I do believe you have to have high goals. I thought that Spider-Man was fantastic, but we don't want to be bested by them. We are working very hard on the development effort right now, so that we are able to provide a new experience."

In fairness to Matsuda, all game developers should want their game to be great. While some would call hearsay about wanting to be better than Spider-Man PS4, it's a noteworthy goal and we'll see if they can reach it.

Marvel's Avengers comes out on May 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
