Rio and selected members from the village make their way towards the royal capital. Prior to departure, Yuba asks Hayate to personally deliver a letter to his father, Lord Gouki. The plot suddenly thickens in this week's episode, considering we find out more about Rio's past, his family lineage, and a hint to his future plans.
Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles follows Rio, a reincarnation of a young man named Haruto Amakawa from modern-day Japan. There seems to be something special about Rio, considering his exquisite physical and magical skills. A mysterious spirit also lies within him, waiting to be awakened.

Spirit Chronicles Episode 8 Recap
The group arrives at the Kingdom of Karasuki's royal capital. Rio, Shin, and the Huntmaster drop off Gon and his men at the prison. Afterward, they go to a restaurant to eat a dish called kamutan, which is most likely ramen. Shin thanks Rio for defending Sayo and asks him to take her out to try kamutan. Rio and Sayo walk around the capital to do some shopping. They suddenly encounter an attempted kidnapping of Hayate's sister, Komomo, in which Rio quickly apprehends the kidnapper.
Hayate meets with his father. He hands him the letter from Yuba containing shocking information about Rio. The Saga family meets up with Rio, revealing that Hayate's parents were once attendants of his mother, a member of the royal family. Gouki proceeds to tell Rio about his parents' background. During this time, the Karasuki Kingdom was at war with the Rokuren Kingdom. His father, Zen, was an exceptional soldier tasked to guard Ayame, his mother.
Negotiations were ongoing for a truce with the Kingdom of Rokuren. However, the prince of Rokuren ordered his attendants to abduct Ayame. Zen saved her, but the prince was mad that Zen killed his attendant. He demanded Zen's execution plus Ayame's hand in marriage. This is what led them to flee the country secretly.
Rio meets his grandparents for the first time at the castle. They ask about Zen and Ayame, and the story behind Ayame's death is revealed. Ayame was murdered by Lucius, an adventurer who worked with Zen before and helped out his family. Rio expresses his resolve for revenge against Lucius.
