In the isekai series, what generally happens is the main character gets transported to a magical, fantasy world that's entirely different from their original one. This isn't necessarily the case with Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles—which makes it quite interesting compared to the usual setup.
It focuses on two people whose memories and personalities intertwine. Haruto Amakawa is a young man from modern-day Japan who died in a traffic accident. He gets reincarnated within Rio, an orphan boy from the magical world of Beltram. Haruto's memories live on inside Rio, all of which Rio remembers but doesn't always exactly understand.
Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles currently has two episodes out, and we're only beginning to scratch the surface.

To recap the second episode, Rio begins studying at the Royal Academy, a school for the powerful and elite. The King enrolled him as a scholarship student to show his gratitude for saving his daughter, Princess Flora.
It's not exactly an exciting new experience for Rio considering his background. He's not welcomed at all by the students. They are constantly judging and looking down on him for being from the slums. Rio's only friend is Celia, his professor. Celia has been a great help to Rio, tutoring him privately so he can catch up on his classes.
The story advances five years later. Rio has proven himself to be an excellent student and swordsman. Rio and Celia are still great friends, and he tells her that he wishes to embark on a journey to visit his parents' homeland after finishing his studies. At the end of the episode, it seems that Celia has feelings for Rio that are more special than a mere friendship.
