Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse received near-unanimous critical praised for its fluid, intense animation and compelling story when it was released in 2018. Many consider it to be the best Spider-Man film ever produced. On Friday, April 23, lead animator, Nick Kondo, made a Twitter thread to share his thought on the hardest shot in the film to animate.

is famous for its spectacular action and colorful visuals, but Kondo highlighted a surprisingly quiet but pivotal moment in the movie.
"I suppose as the years passed and I digested my experiences working on the film, it was this run of shots - Jeff, Miles, & Aaron in the alleyway - that suddenly came leaping to mind," Kondo said.
The scene Kondo highlighted is when Miles Morales experiences the betrayal and death of his uncle, Aaron a.k.a. Prowler. Miles is in the alleyway, where he is confronted by his father Jeff, a New York City police officer. His father doesn't recognize him, and Miles is forced to make an escape to hide his identity.
Kondo talked about how he drew from his own personal experience with grief to reflect Miles' psychological state when he animated the scene.
"It's a devastating emotional load on Miles," Kondo said. "And to try to put myself in his shoes, I dug back to when I lost my dad suddenly & unexpectedly just after college -- Remembering the crushing feeling of getting the midnight call to find out he was gone."
The lead animator also shared details behind the scene's animation, such as the Easter egg of Jeff's gun dissembling for an instant, and the positioning of his firearm.

Sony Pictures Animation already confirmed a sequel for
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
, which is set to release in theaters on October 7, 2022. It was recently announced that Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson will direct the sequel.
