Spider-Man: Far From Home Director Explains Why He Used Nick Fury

Now that Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) finally returned from the dust of Avengers: Infinity War, fans are eager to see the web-slinger take on a new adventure in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the film, fans expect to see S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) become Spider-Man's new mentor.

Speaking in an interview with io9,Far From Home director Jon Watts explains why he had Nick Fury included in the film, revealing how he had originally hoped to add the character in the first Spider-Man standalone movie, Homecoming.

"I always wanted to put our idealistic teenage hero Peter Parker against a jaded, world-weary super spy like Nick Fury," Watts explained.

Apparently, the director had always hoped to see what kind of landscape he could explore with Peter Parker and Nick Fury. Watts wanted to see what it would be like if everyone's favorite wallcrawler would "go up against this bad motherf-ker."

"Tony Stark is like the cool, supportive rich uncle. Nick Fury is more like the mean, new stepdad. And I just thought it would be really fun to see those two worlds collide," the filmmaker explained.

Of course, it's not going to be easy for Spider-Man. Aside from dealing with Nick Fury and his tough-guy attitude, Peter is going to have to navigate the loss of his first mentor in Far From Home. Not only that, but he'll also have to deal with villains like Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) and the elementals.

Let's see how Peter handles all this pressure.
