Details about Sweeney's casting are being kept airtight as of the moment which led fans to believe that she's actually playing a hefty role in the project. Of course, given her physical appearance and striking resemblance to a beloved Spidey character, a lot of people immediately assumed that the 24-year-old rising star is playing Gwen Stacy aka Ghost-Spider/Spider-Gwen.

On Twitter, Sweeney's casting fueled speculation of Gwen Stacy's "return" to the Marvel franchise's live-action realm. Check out some of the reactions below:

As much as she fits the bill, I honestly don't think Sweeney is playing Gwen in Sony's Spider-Man universe because if anything, a casting as major as that wouldn't be kept as a secret. It's also worth noting that there have been rumors swirling around that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man actually belongs in the "Sony-Verse" so if they're actually planning to bring back Stacy, the obvious choice would have to be his The Amazing Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone.

But then again, I could be wrong so I guess we'll just have to wait for the official confirmation regarding her involvement.

Sony's Madame Web film is currently in development.
