There is little doubt that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was truly an eye-popping sequel that somehow outdid the original film. That may have a lot to do with a jaw-dropping cameo that is actually the most meta thing in the animated film. WATCH OUT! Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Drops Awesome Cameo
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales was brought to Earth-928 where he was taken to the Spider Society headquarters. Before meeting Miguel O'Hara, Miles encounters several villains who left their own worlds and created anomalies elsewhere.
One of those villains is a variant of Aaron Davis who is also The Prowler. Interestingly, this variant appears as a live-action villain played by none other than Donald Glover.
Not surprisingly, the reveal of the live-action cameo is the one moment in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that caused audiences to react. After all, Donald Glover had already played another variant of Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming where he also referenced his nephew Miles Morales.
To make things even better, the idea of Miles meeting Glover in the film is incredibly meta considering that the actor inspired the design for the character. Moreover, the Atlanta star played Miles in Ultimate Spider-Man.
Now here's the fun part. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduced the Earth-42 variant of an animated Aaron Davis but this uncle doesn't become the Prowler. Instead, the Earth-42 Miles is the one who has become the villain.
So Donald Glover's cameo somehow spoiled that Miles becomes the Prowler because Glover also played Miles in the past and is basically Miles himself. It's the kind of mind-blowing meta-storytelling that truly made Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse stand out.
