Spider-Man 2 Director Breaks Silence on Doc Ock's Appearance in No Way Home Trailer

Fans got excited when they spotted Alfred Molina's Doc Ock in the first Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer that was released last month. Now, the person behind the film where the character made its debut years ago finally spoke about the villain's appearance in the trailer.

Spider-Man 2 director Sam Raimi, who is also helming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was asked recently in an interview with Syfy Wire about his thoughts on Doc Ock's appearance in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer.

"That was beautiful," Raimi said. "He looks great, the animation's great. I'm assuming it's not puppeted because when we did Doc Ock, we had puppets and animation for his octopus tentacles. But it was smooth and powerful and I loved his costume they kept [from the original]. I think it's gonna be a great movie."

Raimi is the one who introduced Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 so it's great to hear him getting excited about the character's comeback in the upcoming film. He definitely gave a seal of approval to the looks of the character which was retained from his film. It also seems like he is excited to see Spider-Man: No Way Home just like us. But since he is also working on another MCU film right now, it wouldn't be surprising if he was consulted in some ways during the making of the film. After all, Raimi and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige's professional relationship goes all the way back when they were working together on the Spider-Man trilogy in the 2000s.

There have been speculations that Doc Ock might not be the only character from the Spider-Man trilogy who will show up. As the trailer hinted, Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin could possibly appear. J.K. Simmons is also expected to reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson, continuing his appearance at the end of Spider-Man: Far from Home. Last but not the least, there are rumors that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will show up together with Andrew Garfield. We will find out soon enough if those rumors are true once we see another trailer or when we finally watch it on the big screen.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be released in theaters on December 17.
