There's no doubt that Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the biggest superhero films of all time and it pretty much proved that Sony Pictures need Marvel Studios in their corner to make things work. But despite their collective box office-generating powers, it's evident that Sony will continue working on its own Spidey-centric universe, and just recently, it was finally confirmed that Dakota Johnson will headline the upcoming Madame Web project. The titular character is one of the most iconic figures in Spider-Man lore and famously appeared in the animated series from the 1990s.

As it stands, we still don't know much about the project's overall plot although it's safe to assume that it will be another origin flick much like Venom and Morbius. Interestingly, Deadline reports that Sony could be making some drastic changes to the Madame Web character and turn her into a Doctor Strange-type hero.

The entertainment website said that due to her powers and abilities, she'll end up becoming Sony's answer to the MCU's Stephen Strange. Here's what they had to say: "Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains. For that reason, sources have stressed it’s possible the project could turn into something else. Insiders say due to her psychic sensory powers, she is essentially Sony’s version of Doctor Strange."

It's a little weird when you think about it but in the comics, both Strange and Web share similar abilities. Now, we're not quite sure why Sony needs a Doctor Strange-esque figure in their Spidey universe but something tells me they're also planning to form a superteam like the Avengers.

Madame Web is currently under development.
