Sony Rejected Spider-Man 3 Actor's Hilarious Idea For Venom 2 Trailer

Venom is one of the classic Spider-Man villains in Marvel Comics and also in live-action films. First portrayed by actor Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, where he went to antagonize the first-ever Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire. After the role went to Tom Hardy, starring in two solo films, Grace still had ideas for Venom.

Topher Grace made his debut as a Marvel villain in Spider-Man 3 as Eddie Brock who encountered the Venom symbiote instantly giving him superhuman abilities that aimed to kill Peter Parker in the film. Spider-Man 3 was a massive success back in 2007, especially with Venom as the main villain. After 11 years, Venom made an appearance again in a solo film but Grace is out, officially passing the torch to Tom Hardy.

After Spider-Man: No Way Home's introduction to the Multiverse, many fans theorized how many characters would make a cameo for the next Sam Raimi film, Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness. Sadly, Grace's Venom won't have any involvement in the film.

However, Grace still had ideas on how his character could return. In an episode in Late Night with Seth Meyers, Topher Grace sat down to discuss his scrapped idea for an ad tied for Tom Hardy's Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Grace revealed, "I actually had this idea. We couldn’t make it work as an ad. Because Home Economics premiered literally like, one day from when Venom 2 was gonna premiere. And I was like, 'We should do an ad.' They just couldn’t -- It was, like, Sony and Disney, and they couldn’t figure it out."

The actor continues to explain his idea mainly for an ad for his current Home Economics TV show, "Where all of our characters on “Home Economics” were sitting watching the trailer for Venom 2. And I just wanted my character to be, like, not into it. So, I’m like, 'Who even is this guy?' They go, 'Oh, he’s so jacked. He looks great.' I’m like, 'I don’t know, I don’t know.' Like, 'Who is Tom Hardy?' And they’re like, 'You know, ‘Mad Max’ and, like, ’Dunkirk.' I’m like, 'Yeah, but is he, like, a good actor?' And they’ll, 'Yeah, he’s been nominated for an Academy Award.' I’m like, 'Okay, but, like, comic-book villain?' And they’re like, 'Bane, yeah. He’s, like, amazing!'"

Based on the actor's remarks, he clearly wants to get back to the MCU reprising his role as Eddie Brock. With the Multiverse concept being the core of Phase 4, we discovered in No Way Home that anything is nearly possible, and any character can certainly come back if Marvel writers wanted to.

Topher Grace could come back as Eddie Brock again in the next Spider-Man films or spinoffs. For now, no reports claim that he will be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will premiere in theatres on May 6.
