Ever since Ron Howard took over for Solo: A Star Wars Story, there have been rumors going around of a follow-up to his cult film Willow. What's interesting is, they seem to be pushing forward with the spinoff, and it's going to be a series on Disney+.
According to The LA Times, Solo co-writer Jon Kasdan has already completed a pilot script for the series. We don't have any idea how they plan to push forward with the franchise, but I can imagine either a prequel or a sequel. As far as I know, I just want to see Warwick Davis return.
With Star Wars taking a hiatus after The Rise of Skywalker, I'm open to seeing what kind of other material Lucasfilm has in their IP vault. We know that another Indiana Jones movie is coming, so it would be interesting to see how something like Willow will be handled.
Personally, I'm still holding my breath that Lucasfilm gives Solo 2 a green light. Sure the movie didn't perform as expected in the box office, but it's been agreed upon that it was because of Disney's marketing plan to keep all the focus on Avengers: Infinity War that ultimately hurt the film. There is an ongoing #MakeSolo2Happen campaign online, and some fans are even okay with the spinoff becoming a Disney+ series.
Back to Willow though, we don't have any idea when this series could release, or if the pilot is even going to be picked up. Let's just hope Jon Kasdan has the right treatment for the material.
For now, you can catch The Mandalorian on Disney+.
