There's no denying that 2021 was all about representation for Marvel Studios as it finally introduced fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to its first Asian hero through Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film turned out to be a sleeper hit, instantly clicking with its audience and critics. Of course, it was also responsible for turning Simu Liu from a TV regular to an overnight superstar.

The actor may have spent his formative years moving from China to Canada but he has never forgotten about his roots. In fact, Liu has been actively advocating against Anti-Asian hate crimes and now that he's part of the Marvel franchise, he's making use of his much bigger platform to educate his fans, serving as a literal hero to his fellow Asians.

Staying true to his advocacy, Simu has apparently told the organizers of the upcoming Awesome Con (via CBR) that he won't be signing copies of Shang-Chi's Master of Kung Fu run from the '70s. To those unaware, the said series includes cultural stereotypes that are outdated and not to mention offensive.

Liu has yet to confirm the legitimacy of this request but it's worth noting that he's gone on record about his true feelings regarding Shang-Chi's original comics run. I gotta say, mad props to him for standing his ground. Simu is one admirable human being.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is available for streaming on Disney+.
