Simon Pegg Says Star Trek: Beyond's Treatment Killed Enthusiasm for Star Trek 4

As time passes by, it looks like we won't be getting a Star Trek 4 anytime soon, which is a real shame. The first film was a fine mix of nostalgia and new material, while the second movie was really flawed and could have been a lot better. Star Trek: Beyond, on the other hand, was a really good movie and it's a shame that it didn't make a ton of money since it was really fun.

Simon Pegg, who helped write Beyond, spoke with GamesRadar about the possibility of a fourth Star Trek movie and Pegg is not very confident about another movie being made. He previously stated how these movies don't make Marvel money but Pegg also brings up how the poor advertising for Beyond soured him on a fourth movie. The death of Anton Yelchin was also considered a huge blow to the cast, which also affected their enthusiasm.

"I don't feel like the last one...they didn't really take advantage of the 50th anniversary. The regimen at the time dropped the ball on the promo of the film. And we've lost momentum. I think losing Anton [Yelchin] was a huge blow to our little family, and our enthusiasm to do another one might have been affected by that. So I don't know."

Considering how good Beyond ended up being, the poor advertisement really put a detriment on the Star Trek movie brand. While shows like Discovery and Picard are doing pretty well, it seems like no one wants to see Chris Pine and his comrades return as the "new" versions of Captain Kirk and Spock.

Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness, and Star Trek: Beyond are now available on Blu-Ray and digital platforms.
