The Shrek franchise has become one of Hollywood's biggest money-making animated movie franchises in the past 20 years. It has become a cult favorite and is still very much watched by children and adults alike up until now.

When Is The Release Date For Shrek 5?

As of now, the imminent Shrek 5 movie is rumored to be still under development. According to Screenrant, no specific date has been released yet despite the speculations that the fifth installment is on the last leg of its production. It seems to be that, despite the delays caused by story alterations and storyline directions, Shrek 5 will be released sometime around 2022.

Rumors suggested that Shrek 5 may have an all-new Shrek story. The last film, Shrek Forever After in 2010, revolved around Shrek's longing to go back to the days where he felt like a real ogre. He signs a deal with Rumpelstiltskin in hopes to relive the past, but instead, gets duped and finds himself in an alternate universe.

In the newest Shrek, the story might no longer concentrate on Shrek and Fiona themselves but instead their teenage children. According to the rumors, Shrek 5 is all about the two bringing up a bunch of teenagers who are more stubborn than their parents.

As of now, there is not much information going around regarding DreamWork's Shrek 5. The last update of the film was back in 2018 where founder and CEO Illumination Chris Meledandri talked about Shrek 5. In an interview with Variety, the producer spoke about sequels in the works for the Shrek franchise, as well as Puss in Boots.
