Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion made her MCU debut in the third episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law for a special appearance as herself. She became involved in the episode when a shapeshifting elf from New Asgard transformed into the rapper and catfished Jennifer Walters' colleague, Dennis Bukowski, into believing that he is dating her.
However, the highlight of her appearance in the episode is the post-credits scene where she is seen twerking with She-Hulk on her hit single "Body," a moment that got a lot of fans surprised at the very least.
Speaking with The Direct, director Kat Coiro explained how they came up with the idea of Megan Thee Stallion's cameo in the series and how Titania actress Jameela Jamil helped that turn into reality.
"Well, it’s funny, because it was scripted as a celebrity who nobody in their right mind would believe would date Dennis Bukowski," Coiro said. "And it was actually Jameela Jamil who had worked with Megan, who brought her name up, and we all lost our minds. And when we told Tatiana [Maslany] that she was going to do it, Tatiana was so excited because she’s a true Megan fan."
Coiro also revealed that the twerking scene in the post-credits scene came up on the day that the pair was dancing and said that it was done in order to give Maslany a chance to dance with the Grammy winner.
"And so, that’s another example of a scene that was written kind of on the day of them dancing and it was really to give Tatiana a chance to dance with Megan. And we were all surprised at how she could twerk with the rest of them," she added. "It was definitely in the moment where we were filming that, and looking at each other, and saying, 'Either this is going to be the most amazing thing ever, or we’re gonna break the MCU' (laughs)."
The post-credits scene in the third episode is certainly one of the wildest yet in the MCU since it is a moment that a lot of fans wouldn't expect to happen in the franchise. However, it is also consistent with the show's comedic tone. Whether you like the scene or not, you can tell that they had so much doing it.
It would be curious to see whether we have seen the last of Megan Thee Stallion in the series or in the MCU in general. All we know for now is that the series will have more cameo appearances coming in the rest of its run including the Man Without Fear.
