A lot of DC Extended Universe fans were thrilled when rumors circulated last week that Superman actor Henry Cavill could be making his much-awaited return to the franchise as the Man of Steel. The last time we saw the British star as the mighty Kryptonian was in 2017's Justice League and he didn't exactly leave fans with something to look forward to after that.

Cavill pretty much kickstarted the DCEU and fans find it crazy that he's never given the chance to shine in his own superhero film trilogy. Rumors of a Man of Steel 2 have popped up for several years now but Warner Bros. seems to have no intention of giving him what he wants. Still, Henry has kept his word about not leaving the franchise which has quite frankly been a hit or miss since its inception.

Going back to the aforementioned rumor of him returning to the fold, we reported last week that Cavill is poised to make his grand comeback as Superman in Shazam! Fury of the Gods would totally make sense since the character made a cameo during the film's ending.

We hate to break it to you though as Variety recently dismissed reports of Henry's involvement in the DCEU sequel top-billed by Zachary Levi, claiming that they have direct sources who confirmed that the rumors are indeed false.

Even director David F. Sandberg sounded off following the rumors and although he chose not to give any comment about the potential casting, he did confirm that the first Shazam! the film would have seen a proper appearance from Cavill himself but plans ultimately fell through.

It surely is disappointing how Cavill seemingly keeps getting sidelined by WB for some reason but still, you gotta admire his desire to stay in the franchise that he helped build. Let's be real though, the actor isn't getting any younger and it's unfair to keep him waiting for something the production outfit isn't willing to give to him. Let's just "hope" that WB executives change their minds before it's too late.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is in active development.
