Shazam Director Opens Up About The Film's Alternate Opening and Ending

Shazam is a certified hit for DC and Warner Bros, with fans excited to see what's next for the character. Many are expecting an action-packed sequel where he takes on Black Adam, who will get his own solo film beforehand and will be played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. It will also probably keep Doctor Sivanah and include Mister Mind, the evil caterpillar who appeared in the mid-credits sequence.

Interestingly enough, director David F. Sandberg went on Twitter and revealed that the film had an alternate opening and ending, both of which weren't used. They would have been interesting to see and the alternate ending actually sounds better than the one we got, which featured a faceless Superman because Henry Cavill might not be with Warner Bros anyway.

Here is the alternate opening:

In the original opening an elevator takes Thad to the Rock of Eternity. We did the car crash instead to have a more dramatic opening to the film. Thad also sees a hologram with some Sin backstory, similar to Billy.

Now, here is the much better ending:

The alternate ending was a backup we shot in case the cameo at the end didn't work. The alternate had all the kids transform and fly off to stop a hostage situation.

Definitely would have preferred that, though the movie probably had to finish up some plot points. Freddie Freeman did have to show up those bullies after all.

Shazam is coming to digital services on July 2, while the Blu-Ray comes out on July 16.
