It looks like Shazam: Fury of the Gods might finally begin production soon. Ross Butler, who played the powered-up version of Eugene Choi in the first movie, has just teased on getting ready to start filming for the DC Extended Universe sequel.
Butler took to his official Instagram account to share an adorable photo of himself with co-star Ian Chen, who played little Eugene. Check it out below.
"Round 2 coming soon," Butler wrote before adding the hashtag #throwback. Although this is clearly a photo taken from the set of the first movie, the former Riverdale star also made it clear that filming for Shazam 2 could start very soon.
It's no surprise that Warner Bros. is eager to get started on Shazam 2 as soon as possible. After all, it has been made clear that the young cast would need to shoot their scenes before they start to look too old to be playing children. With that in mind, filming could begin within the first half of 2021.
Although production on Shazam 2 is expected to begin this year, fans shouldn't expect to see the sequel any sooner. It was confirmed during in October last year that Fury of the Gods will be pushed to a June 2, 2023 release. Nevertheless, we're hoping to get some awesome updates on the movie this year.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods will be directed by David F. Sandberg and bring back Zachary Levi as the titular DC comic book hero. The cast members of the first movie are all expected to return as well, including Mark Strong's Dr. Sivana. The sequel is currently scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.
