Shazam 2 Director Opens Up About Wonder Woman's Surprise Cameo

As the marketing promos have revealed, Gal Gadot made her cameo appearance as Wonder Woman near the end of Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Fans were delighted when she showed up, especially in the midst of the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 and the doubts about her future in the new DCU franchise.

So far, it remains unknown whether her appearance in the recent film will be the last time that we will see her in the role due to her uncertain future, but nevertheless, it was an exciting moment and it also made some fans why they decided to bring her for a special appearance in the film.

Speaking with Collider, director David F. Sandberg broke down Gadot's special cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. First, he shared some behind-the-scenes stories about Henry Cavill's supposed cameo in the first film where they ended up going with a stand-in as the plans fell apart last minute.

"Then, when we were shooting that scene, they were like, 'Well, Henry is not gonna make it on this day, so we'll shoot it with a stand-in and then we'll have to pick up his coverage later on,'" he said. "It's like, 'Okay…' So, we shot it like that, and then the Henry thing fell apart and we couldn't do it. So we had to just use the stand-in footage, and that's why it ends before you see his face."

Fortunately, that wasn't the case in the sequel as they were able to have Gadot appear in the film and found a way to work things out, unlike Cavill. Sandberg also acknowledged that they were also able to poke fun at Suprman's headless cameo from the first film.

"It's like, 'I don't believe it's gonna happen.' And then, when we were shooting that scene, or the majority of it, it was the same thing, like, 'Oh, you're gonna have to shoot with a stand-in and then we'll pick her pieces up because she's not gonna make it here to Atlanta at this time.' It's like, 'Sure. Yeah,'" the director shared.

"So that's when I started thinking, 'Okay, so when we don't get her, how do we solve it?' Because it's such a big– we have to have it in the movie. So I was like, 'Okay, we need some other god then, I guess. Can we have [Helen Mirren’s] character actually survive? It's gonna be so lame if she shows up.' But that was sort of my Plan But then it actually happened and we were actually able to shoot with her, which made me very happy."

Sanberg also added, "Because, I mean, we poke fun at the headless cameo in this movie, and we could not have done that if she didn't actually show up at the end, I think, because people would have just been so pissed off."

It is great that the sequel was able to include Gadot this time around and there weren't any logistical nightmares that they endured, unlike the first film. It is also a treat for fans, who have been worried about the character's future in the new DCU franchise, and, at the very least, they were able to see her again even if it's just a cameo.
