Tony Leung's performance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was well-received by fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but much like any other Marvel villain not named Thanos, Wenwu's MCU stint was short-lived and he was treated as another "disposable" baddie. Naturally, it left a lot of people quite disappointed because the villain has loads of potential to be great.

We clearly saw Wenwu fall to his demise at the hands of the Dweller of Darkness during the film's third act but is there an actual chance that he could return to the franchise in some shape or form? Well, if you'd take journalist Jeff Yang's word for it, he seems to tease that Wenwu's MCU journey is far from over.

Appearing on the They Call Us Bruce podcast (via The Direct), Yang, who served as a consultant for Marvel's biggest film release this year so far said the following: "Given what they had in Tony Leung, I would have hoped that they would have made it a little more clear that he has other places to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'll just leave it at that."

Reading between the lines, Yang's statement seems to suggest that Wenwu could still turn up in the billion-dollar franchise down the line. Of course, with the entire multiverse scenario coming into play during the entirety of Phase Four and beyond, it would be safe to assume that we could see a variant version of the character in the future. Heck, I wouldn't even be surprised if he didn't actually die in the first place. It's Marvel we're talking about after all so anything is virtually possible.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now screening in cinemas in North America. The film will hit Disney+ on November 12.
