Shang-Chi: Marvel Fans are Skipping Theatrical Release Due to Recent COVID Surge

We're less than a month away from the theatrical release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but its upcoming premiere is causing major concern amongst fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For the uninitiated, the film headlined by Simu Liu will only be exclusive to cinemas and will not be shown via Disney+'s Premier Access feature. The world is still not free from the COVID-19 virus and with the lethal Delta variant looming around, a lot of people are not yet ready to step outside and enjoy films like they used to.

Disney reiterated during a recent investor call that films like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals will retain their respective theatrical-only releases despite the recent surge of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the United States. Instead of being happy about it, many MCU fans say that if Shang-Chi will not have the same release strategy as Black Widow, then they'll have no choice but to skip it and just wait for it to debut in Disney+ sometime this year. The recent spike in COVID cases in the US is getting quite alarming and I'm pretty sure Disney will orchestrate some changes in the coming days ahead of Shang-Chi's release. They have two options, have it available for streaming via Disney+'s Premier Access feature or just delay it altogether anew. I know the latter sounds frustrating but COVID is once again slowly affecting cinemas and the safety of moviegoers should be the top priority.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on September 3, 2021.
