Sebastian Stan Explains Why Bucky Shouldn't Become The New Captain America

Avengers: Endgame has already confirmed that there's a new Captain America and it is none other than Sam Wilson. However, some fans still insist that Steve Rogers should have handed the shield over to Bucky Barnes. Interestingly, Sebastian Stan has addressed this issue and claims that Bucky isn't the best candidate for the job.

Stan and his Falcon and the Winter Soldier co-star Anthony Mackie recently spoke to Yahoo Entertainment where it was brought up that Steve's decision in Endgame could have gone a different way. However, the Martian star disagreed.

"Not really though, if you think about it. It makes no sense for him to -- why would you give it to the guy that's been trying to have a whole new history outside of the thing he's been trapped by?" Stan said. "I remember on the day I found out [about Falcon getting the shield] when we were shooting, I was like, 'Oh wow, this is the deal.' But it makes sense. He [Sam Wilson] actually has been his [Captain America's] right-hand for a long time at this point. If you think about the movies and the time."

Mackie was quick to agree with Stan, saying, "And we're only one movie away from [Bucky] trying to kill everybody."

This is certainly true. Bucky almost killed everyone in Captain America: Civil War when Helmut Zemo activated his brainwashing. So although Bucky is just as strong as Steve, he's probably not the best candidate to be the new Captain America.

In the meantime, Bucky and Sam will be working together in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in Fall 2020.
