Variety’s Actors on Actors series is a very unique show in that it usually puts up two actors from high-interest projects to talk to each other on camera. They did it with Margot Robbie and Cillian Murphy for the Barbenheimer craze, and they even reunited Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway for a Devil Wears Prada reunion.
With Sebastian Stan being attached to so many buzzed-about projects like Thunderbolts* and A Different Man, he’s revealed that he was actually up for a spot on Variety’s interview show, but there’s one problem—nobody wants to be paired with him.
Sebastian Stan on The Apprentice Snub
During a screening of the Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice, Stan went on to talk about how his movie is kind of being snubbed by certain publicists because of the touchy outcome of the US 2024 elections.
The MCU star even goes on to talk about being up for a spot on Actors on Actors, but it couldn’t push through because they couldn’t find anyone to do it with him. He says:
“I couldn’t find another actor to do it with me because they were too afraid to go and talk about this movie, so I couldn’t do it… That’s not pointing at anyone specific. We couldn’t get past the publicist or the people representing them because they were too afraid to talk about this movie.”
Though the movie does try its best to be neutral and get into the ‘why’ of who Trump is as a person, a lot speculate that the poor ticket sales could be due to Trump fans not wanting to see a movie that paints him in a bad light; and anti-Trumpers already being sick of seeing Trump on their news feeds all the time.
Regardless, The Apprentice did have a lot of great critical reviews and was considered a very interesting ‘origin story’ for the 47th President of the United States.
An I, Tonya Reunion?
A lot of people have been showing sympathy for Stan in the comments, especially since the movie has been proven pretty tough to promote because of the political climate; but there are some that are willing to go on Actors on Actors with him.
Stan’s co-star from I, Tonya Paul Walter Hauser retweeted the interview with Stan and proposed that he could do it:
While I expect the two already have a bunch to talk about, it is worth noting that both are going to be in upcoming Marvel Studios projects with Stan being in Thunderbolts* and Hauser being cast in a mystery role in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Given the timing, probably the only other actor that would be fun to be paired with Stan is ex-Captain America Chris Evans, who should be in promotion mode for his Christmas movie Red One.
Then again, fans will just have to wait and see if Stan eventually lands a partner.
The Apprentice is now available on digital.
