The Scream franchise has seen its share of new actors and actresses, including the famed Jenna Ortega of Netflix’s Wednesday fame, debuting in Scream (2022).

With Scream 7, however, we see the return of one of the original ladies that made the series so popular among its fanbase - Neve Campbell.

Campbell portrayed Sidney Prescott and appeared in all of the series' movies except Scream 6. The actress bowed out of the sixth film following a dispute over payroll, stating that she felt the offer extended to her fell short of the value her participation has affixed to the franchise.

On Tuesday, however, Campbell posted on Instagram the cover page of Scream 7’s script, which bore the title Untitled Scream 7. The cover also revealed that the film was written by Guy Busick, based on a story by Busick and James Vanderbilt.

The actress expressed her excitement at returning to the film series and at the prospect of working with Kevin Williamson, the series creator, writer, and director of the seventh Scream film.

She also described her years of experience playing Sidney Prescott as “a blast and an honor.” Despite the earlier conflict, she reiterated that her appreciation for the franchise has never waned.

Williamson was one of the persistent voices in the industry clamoring for a pay raise for Campbell, stating that he would “give her the money” following the disagreement that led to her absence in the sixth Scream film.

This would be the first time Williamson will sit on the director’s chair of a Scream movie. He had served as executive producer for the Scream reboot and Scream 6 and had written Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4.

However, Campbell’s return was preceded by Jenna Ortega's departure from the seventh film, caused by scheduling conflicts with Netflix’s Wednesday. Melissa Barrera was also axed from the sequel after her controversial social media posts about the current conflict in Israel.
