However, to clear the air, Freddie Prinze Jr.’s wife set the record straight—and it’s far from what fans think.

Gellar, Hewitt, and Prinze all starred in the original I Know What You Did Last Summer, though the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star, who played Helen Shivers, was killed off in the film.
Now, with Hewitt and Prinze returning for Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s take on the 1997 slasher classic, Gellar joined her husband at the red carpet premiere in Los Angeles.
Naturally, after 28 years, fans expected the returning cast members to take photos together. But some noticed that there were no pictures of Gellar and Hewitt together. Even on Gellar’s own Instagram account, Hewitt was noticeably absent.
As speculation swirled and fans flooded her comment section with questions about a possible feud, the 47-year-old actress gladly responded to dispel the rumors.
“For everyone asking — I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie,” she wrote in the comments. “I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party.”
Gellar went on to explain that attending a movie premiere is “crazy,” and she didn’t get the chance to take photos with every cast member.
“But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are,” she continued. “Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Gellar and Hewitt were rumored to have had a falling-out. After Gellar’s character was killed off in I Know What You Did Last Summer, speculation arose that Hewitt had her removed from the franchise.
The Ghost Whisperer star then addressed the claim on an episode of the I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario podcast in December 2024, firmly denying it.
“I was 18. They were not taking script notes from me,” she explained. “All of us were in that experience together, you know, figuring it all out and everything. And I root for her and Freddie.”
She even praised Gellar and Prinze’s relationship, calling it the “cutest thing” that they’ve been married for over two decades and share three children.
“It’s, like, adorable. So it’s just been really funny to see all of this stuff,” she continued.
So, despite fans seemingly trying to pit Gellar and Hewitt against each other, there’s no bad blood between the two.
