MCU projects, whatever they are, always receive anticipation from their avid viewers, despite knowing what could happen because of the predetermined comics. Marvel is one of the major superhero franchises in the world, so fans are always looking ahead to what more they can offer. Despite this situation, Samuel L. Jackson, who’s popular for his role as Nick Fury, still gets surprised by how much fans are looking forward to his upcoming miniseries, Secret Invasion.
In his Instagram story, Jackson reposted someone else’s story that shows Secret Invasion is on the second spot of “IMDB's Most Anticipated New Series of 2023.” The Nick Fury actor captioned it with “Whaaaaaaa,” indicating his astonishment at how fans are looking forward to the Marvel series despite not having the exact launch date yet.
Fans' excitement is understandable given that Secret Invasion will star MCU newcomers The Crown's Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, and Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke. The project will span six episodes and follow Jackson's Nick Fury as he goes against Mendelsohn's Talos the Skrull, with Cobie Smulders also reprising her role as Maria Hill. It is expected to stream on Disney+ sometime in the first half of 2023.
In October, Smulders expressed to TVLine his fascination for Jackson’s Fury, as the upcoming alien mystery project will feature a different side of him. “It’s a very different tone than I have seen. Especially having Sam [Jackson] in anything is just a thrill to watch, but I think it really sets his character up in a really interesting way that I’ve always wanted to see.”
The How I Met Your Mother star also hinted that the series will explore not just the backstory of the old S.H.I.E.L.D. boss but also her character. “I would say it’s the most depth that I’ve been able to show of Maria Hill. I think that’s the beauty of the show that Marvel is doing, you’re able to get backstories of these characters – what are the conversations that happen when they’re just sitting around drinking coffee,” she said.

Secret Invasion is scheduled to premiere this spring and will commence Phase Five of the MCU.
