Ryan Reynolds Shares Fun 'Audition Reel' For Detective Pikachu

After capturing audiences with his performance as Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds is now entering the world of Pokemon with this year's upcoming Detective Pikachu. The movie is set to come out early in May, and Reynolds has just shared this fun "audition reel" of the Pokemon we'll be seeing in the film.

While the trailers have given us a look at some other live-action Pokemon, this preview definitely gives us a lot more of them. It's been iterated before that we'll be getting Pokemon from multiple generations, so there'll be a good mix of classic and new Pokemon to see.

What's also noteworthy is that the music being used in the film seems to be part of the plot. As it turns out, the Psyduck that hangs out with our main characters needs to have the music playing in order for it to calm itself down. It sure is an interesting set-up, and I can't wait to see how it pays off in the film.

It's going to be a big year for Pokemon, seeing as Detective Pikachu will be the franchise's first foray into live action. What's good is, the reception for the film has been mostly positive, and though I can see some adults being harsh critics, I'm sure the kids will love this film just out of the fact that it has live Pokemon in it.

The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City--a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world--they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Detective Pikachu is set to come out in theaters May 9.
