Ryan Reynolds recently addressed his future in the MCU following the massive box-office success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
The new MCU film has broken many box office records since its release in theaters. It is now expected to reach the billion-dollar mark very soon, making it the first film in the franchise to get to the milestone since Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Fans have been wondering whether the film's major success will lead to more Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in the future of the MCU as they would love to see more of their adventures.
Ryan Reynolds Weighs In on MCU Future as Deadpool
In a recent interview, Reynolds opened up about his MCU future as Deadpool in the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine's box office success.
He revealed that he has "no idea" yet whether he will be playing his iconic role in more projects, but he is hopeful that he will be returning soon.
"I would say that Shawn [Levy] and I have been pretty clear, I think, in the most loving way, because talk about the greatest uptown problem any human beings could have is a studio like that saying, ‘What’s next?’ Or ‘How can we make something else?’" the actor said.
"But this movie was made as a complete experience. It wasn’t meant to be a commercial for another movie. It wasn’t meant to be any of that stuff. And, I think I get a great deal of joy making a movie like that."
Reynolds continued, "But honestly, right in this moment, I have no idea if I’ll ever wear that Deadpool suit again — I hope I do — but I don’t know. Right now’s the time to just kind of hang it up for a bit and see what happens next."
Considering the film's record-breaking performance, it would be more surprising if Marvel Studios didn't bring back Reynolds and Jackman in future projects. After all, the film did not serve as a closure for the heroes' journey.
For now, let's wait and see whether Reynolds and Jackman will return in a sequel or a team-up movie, but as the film's joke suggested, they might likely play their roles until they become 90.
Deadpool & Wolverine is showing in theaters everywhere.
