Rogue One’s Donnie Yen is on the Shortlist for Marvel's Shang-Chi

Marvel is keeping their representation train going with the Asian-led movie Shang-Chi, and news has it that the studio already has an idea on who they want to star.

According to That Hashtag Show, Donnie Yen (Rogue One, Ip-Man) is on the shortlist to star as the first Asian-superhero in the MCU. Of course, there are also other actors on the list, and one of them is the much younger Ludi Lin who starred in Power Rangers and Aquaman.

At 55 years old, I'd think that Yen would be too old to commit to a superhero franchise, but he still remains to be one of the most famous martial artists out there, and him starring in a Marvel film could be a huge draw for the Chinese box office.

If anything, some people think that Yen is better suited for a villain role. There are rumors going around that Marvel wants to bring in the real Mandarin in Shang-Chi, and Yen I think would be a perfect choice. Then again, the Mandarin uses a lot of magic, and they may not be able to make good use of Yen's martial arts prowess if that's the case.

For now, nothing has been set in stone. I do have to say though, if Yen finds an MCU role, then he would have starred in three franchises owned by Disney. Besides starring in Rogue One, Yen is also set to appear in the live-action remake of Mulan which is set to come out next year. Hopefully, we get an update on his Shang-Chi status soon.

No release date has been set for Marvel's Shang-Chi.
