It hasn’t been long since Avatar and Alita producer Jon Landau had confirmed that the Battle Angel will soon return in her long-awaited sequel.
Premiering back in 2019, the cliffhanger ending of the film left fans on the edge, eager to see Alita back in action again.
Now that original director had also confirmed that the sequel has been in talks, Robert Rodriguez has also revealed that an Alita trilogy is on the table.
“I mean, movement other than us talking about it? You know, I just wasn’t sure it was ever gonna happen,” Rodriguez confessed in a recent interview with Collider.
The director touched upon how when Disney had just bought Fox, the crew behind Alita: Battle Angel had also disappeared. No other Fox movies had come out since Disney ‘was still busy making their own stuff.’
Only then did Rodriguez add: “But now I’ve seen some Fox movies come out, so that gave me hope.”
In case you missed it, Rodriguez previously confirmed being in talks of developing the Alita sequel, most likely after the WGA strike and of course, Cameron's Avatar threequel.

Amid the confirmation of Alita 2, however, Rodriguez had ambiguously confirmed that an Alita threequel is a possibility.
“He outlined, very thoroughly, a second and third film, so there’s already material there.” Rodriguez said, “So yeah, we’re hoping that that will happen. But nothing more definitive than that.”
While nothing has been decided yet, a ‘thorough’ outline of Alita 2 and Alita 3 is more than enough proof of the surprising trilogy fans should be hyping up real soon.
Should the WGA strikers succeed, the trilogy will come to fruition all in good time, garnering as much success or perhaps surpass its predecessor grossing over $404 million in worldwide box office.
We shall soon see the cast grace the screens again: Rosa Salazar as the titular cyborg alongside Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connelly, and Ed Skrein.
There is no official release date yet for Alita 2. For now, Alita: Battle Angel is available to stream on various platforms.
