Robert Pattinson Still Finds Danny DeVito's The Penguin Disturbing

Now that Matt Reeves' reboot of The Batman is showing in theaters, featuring the new face of Bruce Wayne, Robert Pattinson. Batman has been rebooted multiple times and casts well-known actors like George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, and Michael Keaton. Keaton was the first-ever actor to debut in a live-action Batman film, starring in 1989's Batman that is quickly followed by a sequel Batman Returns in 1992. Both of Keaton's Batman films are from the Gothic mind of director, Tim Burton.

Now that Robert Pattinson is the new Batman, Keaton didn't completely fade from the spotlight. Keaton is now reprising his role as Bruce Wayne in the DC Extended Universe, specifically for The Flash. Keaton is also confirmed for the DC spinoff of Batgirl, as his character sets up as a mentor for DC's young superheroes like Batgirl, Flash, and Supergirl.

But Keaton isn't the only legend from Tim Burton's Batman franchise. One particular villain who debuted in the franchise was The Penguin, played by Golden Globe Award nominee, Danny DeVito. DeVito's iconic portrayal of The Penguin was disturbing but was really on point. DeVito's The Penguin became a standard for future Batman films.

While Robert Pattinson was promoting The Batman, Speaking with BBC Radio 1, Pattinson praises Tim Burton's Batman films and recalls watching the 1992 film and being terrified of DeVito's The Penguin, Pattinson admitted that even as an adult, still disturbed by the villain.

Pattinson explained, "I love Danny Devito as well. Batman Returns is a masterpiece... I remember watching as a little kid and even watching it now it's one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. It's like a little risque as well."

Though Tim Burton's film didn't develop into a trilogy because of the backlash from the audience in the second film, Danny DeVito's portrayal of The Penguin serves as a standard for Batman films. Thanks to director Matt Reeves, The Penguin will resurface again as a villain and will be played by Colin Farell.

Reeves revealed that his Batman reboot will be more grounded than Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, so we can assume a more realistic material for Farell's The Penguin compared to Danny DeVito. The Penguin spinoff is already confirmed for HBO Max that will focus on the mad villain's story while antagonizing Gotham City.
