After Matt Reeves’ temporary exit, the future of The Batman: Part II has been uncertain. So, lead star Robert Pattinson has given an update on the delay, offering a glimpse of what possibly lies ahead.

“We’re pausing for a little bit and then we are going to figure it all out,” he told Pop Drop (via ComicBook) at the BFI London Film Festival 2026 while promoting his new movie, the Chris Hansen biopic Primetime.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. officially announced the temporary production pause while Reeves tends to his personal situation.

As DC has expressed its full support for the filmmaker, filming is expected to resume once Reeves is able to return.

So far, the film’s release date has not changed, and it is still scheduled to premiere on February 18, 2028, after being previously scheduled for October 2025, then delayed to October 2026 and again to October 2027.

However, given that the film features big stars like Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, and Andy Serkis, fans hope their busy schedules won’t affect filming once it resumes and that they will remain part of the cast despite the numerous delays.

Despite the delays, there is no denying that The Batman: Part II is one of the most highly anticipated sequels today, following the first movie’s release in 2022.

After the Riddler (Edward Nashton) blew up Gotham City’s seawalls to flood the central square and the arena where Mayor Bella Reál (Jayme Lawson) held her victory rally, Batman and Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz) stopped the Riddler’s followers from assassinating Reál. The Caped Crusader also cut a live high-voltage wire to save trapped citizens from electrocution.

The film ended with the Riddler being locked up in Arkham State Hospital, where he befriended an unseen inmate believed to be the Joker, while Selina left Gotham, believing the city was beyond saving.

As for Bruce Wayne, he decided to become a symbol of hope for the city's recovery rather than continue his mission of pure vengeance.

However, according to Robert Pattinson himself, the sequel will be a “real left turn from the first” movie.

“It’s so ambitious,” he told Collider. “I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another… It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.”

With Pattinson teasing a bold new direction for the sequel, fans will have to wait and see how Reeves expands Batman’s story while maintaining the dark atmosphere that made the first film stand out.
