Rian Johnson's Own Star Wars Trilogy is Pushing Forward According to Director

If there's one thing we learned from 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it's that fans aren't ready for Rian Johnson's own vision for the franchise. Episode VIII can very well be considered as the most divisive film the sequel trilogy had to offer and looking back at it now, it sure feels like a different movie overall.



And while it did extremely well at the box office, earning over 1 billion dollars worldwide, The Last Jedi wasn't a hit amongst critics OG fans of the saga and that may have forced Lucasfilm to go back to the drawing board and rehire J.J. Abrams to helm the Skywalker saga's grand finale which also turned out to be a polarizing project.

Johnson's first outing in the Star Wars universe may not have been a sure-fire hit but that's not to say that TLJ doesn't have its legions of avid supporters because quite frankly, it has gained a strong following over the years and a lot of people believe that the director deserves another shot at the science-fiction epic.

In a stunning new development, Rian is apparently still pushing forward with his own Star Wars trilogy. Plans always called for the director to helm his own trilogy but due to his packed schedule, the supposed trilogy has been sidelined which has led a lot of fans to think that he's no longer attached to the project.

According to author Sariah Wilson who recently did an interview with the Knives Out director, Rian will still be working on his own trilogy but the specifics weren't disclosed. Wilson even tweeted about it and confirmed to fans that the long-awaited project is still happening.

It's great news for fans of Rian's body of work and quite frankly, it's even better news for the director himself. While I don't think he's all that bothered about the mixed reception people have towards The Last Jedi, working on a new set of Star Wars projects could potentially serve as the acclaimed filmmaker's road to redemption. I'm all for it to be honest.
