How Does Resident Evil End?
The main point of Resident Evil is Bryan delivering a mysterious box to Raccoon City General Hospital.
And as a medical courier, he does his job and tries his best to fulfill it despite several creepy encounters on the road, like a terrifying mutant dog and an infected little girl, who ends up biting his arm.
He even finds himself with an Umbrella Corporation executive inside the car.
And just as everyone thought that Bryan was delivering an organ to a sick kid, it turns out to be the cure that Umbrella had developed for the lab team that could synthesize the virus.
Of course, after what happened to him, Bryan also wants the cure, but he still has to fight his way through zombies, monsters, and a beast to get into the lab. But after he hands the cure, Bryan’s body is already changing due to the bite.
Even as he tries to hide his hand’s mutation, it is already a little too late. Tentacles are beginning to sprout from his back, giant teeth opening from his stomach, and his body transforming into a frightening monster.
But despite what is happening to his body and his extremities uncontrollably destroying the lab, Bryan is still begging to have the cure.
When he finally gets his hands on it, the cure unfortunately slips from his grasp and falls 20 stories below him.
A National Guard helicopter then flies through and shines its light on the now fully mutated Bryan. The scene then cuts to black, and the Resident Evil title card appears.
What Does The Resident Evil Ending Mean?
As it appears, the Resident Evil ending may be up to the audience’s interpretation. However, it looks like director Zach Cregger may have one intention behind letting a relatable character whom viewers are rooting for end up like that.
Sure, it may be realistic for a non-fighter like Bryan to suffer such an ending, unlike the game’s characters, such as Leon Kennedy, who has a fighting chance against the zombies for being a police officer and a government secret agent.
So, while the monster that Bryan has become is an all-new creation for the movie, it seems like Cregger is telling the origin story of an epic boss fight.
So far, there are no words on whether there will be Resident Evil 2 under Cregger, but the filmmaker has already expressed his interest in making one.
“There’s always ideas. You cannot not have ideas,” he told Variety. “With Barbarian, I’ve never entertained the idea of a sequel. But this is different. I want to talk about the ending of this movie so badly.”
So, while the ending may reveal something about Bryan’s future, his transformation may also tease what’s next for Resident Evil.
