Amid the success of the first few episodes of Song Joong Ki’s new drama, Reborn Rich, the newly released series faces various controversies.
From cultural inaccuracies to editing and down to the characters’ loveline, viewers expressed their disappointment in online communities.
Based on the web novel The Youngest of a Conglomerate, Reborn Rich depicts the story of a loyal employee named Yoon Hyun Woo, who works for Soonyang Group.
Despite his loyalty and dedication to the company, he was framed for embezzlement and was murdered by one of the members of the family.
However, he was stunned to see that he was reincarnated as Jin Do Joon, a third-generation chaebol and a member of the Soonyang family.
In addition, he was able to meet Soonyang’s founder Jin Yang Chul, played by Lee Sung Min.
Although Reborn Rich had received massive success through soaring ratings and praises from viewers, some criticize the show due to various reasons.
Accused of Disrespecting Istanbul
After airing Reborn Rich episode 2, Song Joong Ki’s K-drama was accused of “disrespecting” the representation of Istanbul.
As cited by Koreaboo, a TikTok user pointed out the inaccuracies and how the show deemed the image of Istanbul.
In a post, the user shared a comparison featuring a scene from Reborn Rich and the reality of the country.
Based on the drama, it showed that Istanbul is a dangerous and undeveloped country when in fact it is now modernized and home of “the most sociable & hospitable people.”

Overdone Face Filter on Song Joong Ki
Everybody would agree that Song Joong Ki is one of the most handsome stars in Korea; hence there’s no need for him to have excessive editing.
However, in one of the episodes of Reborn Rich, viewers noticed that the actor’s face was heavily edited using face filters to make him look young. That is because the scene includes a flashback of his character portraying a college freshman while Song Joong Ki’s age is 37.
Song Joong Ki and Shin Hyun Bin’s Loveline
Another aspect that gained mixed refraction from viewers is the loveline between Song Joong Ki and Shin Hyun Bin’s character.
In one scene, Jin Do Joon recognized a familiar face in the crowd, which happens to be Seo Min Young during her law school days.
He invited her to go to an elite meeting club, hinting about a possible loveline.
Netizens took to online communities and expressed their disappointment saying that the show should focus on Jin Do Joon’s revenge against Soonyang.
