Production for The Batman Pushed Back?

It's been taking a long time, but it looked like Matt Reeves' solo Batman movie was finally picking up steam, and the film was set to start production later this year. As it turns out, we'll have to wait until 2020 before the cameras start rolling.

This update comes from Variety's Justin Kroll who writes:

Annoyingly, this comes off the rumor that the casting for Batman would be announced this week. I guess we'll just have to wait a bit longer before we find out who the new Bruce Wayne is, but we may be looking at an announcement by June.

No shortlist has come out for potential actors to take on the role, but some are still firm believers that Armie Hammer would get the part despite him publicly confirming that he hasn't been approached by DC. There was also a rumor going around for a while that Robert Pattinson was being considered for a role, and Jon Hamm had also expressed interest.

With James Gunn being hired back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, I was kind of hoping that the DCEU would announce that Ben Affleck would come back to the role—what with the latest DC films being hits and all. I just think it would be a waste for his character to go, not really being given a time to shine by himself in the big screen.

We don't know when the next Batman will be announced, but we can catch the solo movie when it hits theaters June 25, 2021.
