King Charles is reportedly considering giving the Edinburgh Dukedom to either Princess Charlotte or Prince Edward. An outlet created a survey, and here are the results.
Poll Results On Princess Charlotte Vs. Prince Edward For Edinburgh Dukedom
Express.co.uk created a new poll asking the readers who King Charles should give the Edinburgh dukedom between his brother Prince Edward and granddaughter Princess Charlotte. The poll ran from Dec. 5 to Dec. 10, and a total of 7,373 participated in it.
The majority, 81 percent (5,990 people), preferred that King Charles make his younger brother Prince Edward the new Duke of Edinburgh.
Only 15 percent (1,116 people) favored Prince William and Kate Middleton's daughter for the title. The Prince and Princess of Wales' only daughter is expected to inherit the Princess Royal title when her father takes over the throne and after Princess Anne's death as she currently holds the title.
Two percent (109 people) said His Majesty should "keep it himself", and another two percent (102) said it should go to a different royal. Meanwhile, 56 participants said they did not know.
Why Do Some Believe Giving The Edinburgh Dukedom To Princess Charlotte Makes Sense?
King Charles has been open about his interest in pursuing a slimmer monarchy. Giving the title to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's daughter makes more sense in terms of what he wants for the institution's future.
"One of the reasons is that it's a hereditary title, if he gives it to Edward, it then establishes a new household. You've got the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, their son James would inherit that title," royal commentator Richard Eden said.

Also, giving Princess Charlotte the title would be "historically significant."
"Charlotte's position is historically significant because she is the first female member of the royal family whose place in the line of succession will not be surpassed by her younger brother," an insider said.
"So it is constitutionally significant that Charlotte should be given such a corresponding title, because it is not beyond the realms of possibility that she will accede the throne if, for example, Prince George does not have children."
