Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might return to serving the monarchy after Queen Elizabeth II. However, they are likely to serve as part-time working royals in Prince Charles' reign.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Could Return As Part-Time Royals?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal duties in 2020. They moved to the United States and settled in California. However, royal author Tom Quinn suggested that they might return to royal life.

"One interesting thing an insider told me… is that both Meghan and Harry believe that when the elder royals die – in other words, Elizabeth – they may well be able when Charles is King, be able to come back and be the part-time royals that they really wanted to be," he said on To Di For Daily podcast, per Express.

"So that they would be six months [as] working royals and six months in the States or wherever doing their own thing," he added.

Prince Harry and Markle are allegedly hoping that Prince Charles will allow them to do so because it is something that Queen Elizabeth II refused to give to them.

"Harry's father, after all, will be more of a modernizer and will say to them, ‘okay, if you want to be part-time royals, that’s fine,'" he continued. "I don’t think Harry and Meghan really want to spend their whole time in the States and not be part of the Royal Family, they just don’t want to do it all the time."

Queen Elizabeth Vetoed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Plans To Work As Part-Time Royals?

Royal correspondent Omid Scobie, co-author of Finding Freedom shared how difficult it was for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to leave their royal duties. They allegedly had no plans to leave and "had it all mapped out in their heads" how they could carry out their royal duties while also pursuing private work.

However, the couple didn't get the Queen's support. Her Majesty reportedly vetoed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's "one foot in, one foot out" approach.

"They tried to find a way to compromise," Scobie told People. "But would that have enabled them to have that level of happiness and security that they have today? Probably not. Those ties to the institution [of the monarchy] would have still been strong and there would have constantly been issues about financial endeavors and the business decisions they made."

Last year, Scobie said the couple didn't have regrets about their decision. They allegedly felt that things worked in the best possible way because they finally lived the life they desired.

"It's only now that they've found a life that supports their interests and enables them to focus on the things that are important to them," he told People.
