Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be able to return as working royals after they stepped down from their duties two years ago if the report is true that Prince Charles wants to slim down the royal family to only eight members.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle No Way Back?

Several outlets claimed that Prince Charles wanted to slim down the monarchy. Royal expert Kinsey Schofield weighed in on the matter and said fewer members would be involved in the monarchy.

Express claimed that the Prince of Wales wanted to limit the working royals to only eight — Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

"While these are all individuals that will be out in the future representing the crown, I think Charles will try to draw attention to himself, Camilla, and the Cambridge family as the future of the monarchy," she told Insider (via Express).

Prince William, the second in line to the throne, is reportedly on the same page as his father. He agreed to cut down the active members of the royal family.

Royal Family Not Taking Back Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

The senior working royals have lost a number of members even before Prince Charles takes over the throne to slim down the monarchy.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal duties in 2020. Prince Andrew also did the same. All three seemed to have no way back to returning into the royal folds if the reports were true.

Royal and entertainment reporter Neil Sean said in a new video on his YouTube channel that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be replaced by other members of the family. Instead of inviting back the Sussexes, the royals reportedly encouraged those still in the firm to step up.

"Harry and Meghan [thought that they are] invincible and the monarch won't survive without them. But as we've seen over the last 18 months, for Harry and Meghan, it's proven a very difficult transitional period," the royal correspondent said.

"Harry and Meghan ... really felt that at some point, they would have to return because they thinned down the monarchy," Sean continued. "[But] they have decided not to reinvite Harry and Meghan back, and it's other members of the British monarchy who are stepping forward and showing their mettle. One, in particular, is the husband of Princess Anne, Admiral Tim Laurence."

Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge is also not supportive of his uncle Prince Andrew returning to the royal fold.

"He has strong views on the Duke of York and believes his insistence in trying to cling on to a public role is highly dangerous for the institution," a friend of Prince William told Daily Mail. "He would have cut him loose a long time ago if it had been up to him."

"He understands that when it comes to mother and son the situation is complicated, but honestly I think he just wishes he would vanish from public view."
