Variety confirmed that Prime Video renewed the TV series adaptation of Carrie for a second season, following its successful premiere earlier this month.
While details are still under wraps, we can expect the second season to tackle a brand-new story in the Carrie White lore, given that the first season already covers the entire Stephen King novel.
Summer H. Howell is expected to reprise her role as Carrie White. We can also expect other cast members whose characters survived the end of the first season to return as well.
"For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next," showrunner Mike Flanagan said in the announcement.
Meanwhile, Stephen King, who also serves as an executive producer, said: "I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling."
The renewal should not come as a surprise, given that Flanagan already teased in a previous interview that he has a three-season plan for the series.
"In my dream scenario, I think it’s three seasons. In my dream scenario, I think Carrie has a wonderful three-step arc. It’s a trilogy, really," he said to Collider.
