Poppy Playtime has become one of the most well-known horror games in recent years, and soon, it will get a surprise spinoff in Japan. That’s because a Poppy Playtime manga adaptation was announced today.

This new manga was revealed in Ribon magazine. The announcement came with a visual featuring the game’s iconic character Huggy Wuggy.

While it’s not clear what the manga’s story will be, the announcement confirmed that it will be a full-color manga, though it will be a fairly short one.

Poppy Playtime Manga Announced in Shueisha Magazine

Mob Entertainment’s Poppy Playtime is a survival-horror video game series that began with Chapter 1 – A Tight Squeeze, which was released back in October 2021.

Since then, the series has gotten two more chapters, with each featuring a new main enemy. Among the game’s fanbase though, chapter 1’s Huggy Wuggy is the most well-known given how disturbing and scary he looks in-game.

Aside from being a hugely popular game (especially among streamers) in the West, Poppy Playtime has also become well-known in Japan, enough that you’ll easily spot plushies and merch for the series in game centers and hobby stores.

Given how Japan has become enamored with Poppy Playtime, it makes sense that a manga adaptation is coming soon.

Titled Poppy Playtime Forever ~Shinobi Yoru Ashioto~ (or Sneaking Footsteps in English), this will be a full-color manga with only eight pages that will be released by Ribon, a magazine under Shueisha of Shonen Jump fame.

It is made by Emi Ishikawa, an artist who is best known for creating the horror manga Zekkyou Gakkyuu, which got a live-action adaptation.

Poppy Playtime Forever Manga Release Date

What’s interesting about this manga is that it will be released in Ribon, a monthly shojo manga magazine. After all, Poppy Playtime isn’t exactly what you’d call a shojo series.

This manga should be a must-read for fans of the game, and it will be released in the next Ribon issue, which is scheduled to be released on July 2 or 3.

Currently, there's no word on whether this manga will be released in English through Manga Plus or Viz Media's Shonen Jump.

Will There Be More Chapters in the Future?

As the manga will only be eight pages long, it’s probably not going to adapt the story of chapter 1. Likely, it will just be a short side story involving Huggy Wuggy.

It’s not clear if this will be a recurring manga or if it’s just a one-shot. Given its popularity, it won’t be surprising to see it become a proper manga series.

If not, there’s still a chance we’ll see more Poppy Playtime projects from Japan soon, as it has a sizeable fanbase in the country.
