Pokemon Sword and Shield are Going to Have 18 Gyms

Now that November is only one month away, fans are excited to check out Pokemon Sword and Shield when they come out. Thanks to Game Informer covering the two titles for their November cover, we've managed to uncover a couple of things, like the lack of HMs and the introduction of autosaving. More details have since surfaced, one of which is going to sound really enticing to longtime fans: there are going to be 18 gyms to battle through.

Apparently, the gyms will be split into two: Major and Minor Leagues. Different gyms will appear in each league and they will differ between the two versions, like the previously announced Bea for Sword and Allister for Shield. The big idea seems to be that gyms will differ yearly, adding a lot of replayability to the two games so that's going to be really interesting.

Multiplayer functions aside, Pokemon games have always had some decent-length post-game content. While nothing beats going back to the Kanto region in Gold and Silver, there have been Battle Frontiers and other similar tournaments in the game to keep us busy. Hopefully, something like yearly changes in gym leaders will keep players busy.

Though many have chosen to be negative about Pokemon Sword and Shield, there's no denying that this looks like a fine game. Sure, it could look better for a Switch title but it could also look much worse and it seems like there will be a lot of features to keep fans interested. In five years, the two entries will be seen as underrated and underappreciated.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are scheduled for a November 15 release for Nintendo Switch.
