The seemingly never-ending saga between former spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard finally reached its odyssey last June as the Aquaman star lost the defamation trial case Depp filed against her. Currently, Depp is slowly making his presence felt in Hollywood after years of being blacklisted and while fans are happy to have him back, most of them are still hopeful that the actor will find his way back to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Now, the movement is even stronger and the years-long online petition demanding Disney to bring back Depp as Jack Sparrow in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean project is once again gaining traction.

The Change.org movement which was launched three years ago is now closing in on 1 million signatures. As of writing, the petition has over 789,000 stamps from Depp's supporters.

Of course, it isn't a guarantee that Disney will reinstate the actor but the noise the petition is creating could ultimately lead to the higher-ups over at the House of Mouse having a collective change of heart.

As it stands, details about the next Pirates film have remained scarce but according to reports, it will star The Suicide Squad's Margot Robbie and will be treated as a soft reboot for the successful franchise. Now, with Johnny being cleared of the allegations that were detrimental to his career, the actor is gearing up for his huge return to Hollywood. The question is, will Disney actually reinstate him, or are Jack Sparrow's days truly over?

All films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise are available for streaming on Disney+.
