John Cena made his debut as one of the film’s main antagonists in F9: Fast and Furious as Jakob Torreto, Dom and Mia’s estranged brother who matches Dom’s physical build, combat skills, and of course, insane driving skills. Jakob was revealed to be working with Charlize Theron’s Cipher who was the main antagonist for two consecutive franchises of the film though had a change of heart at the ending and helped Dom’s crew in a clash with Cipher.

At the ending of the film, we saw a reconciliation between the three, Dom, Mia, and Jakob, and teased a potential new member of Dom’s crew. Fans generally enjoyed John Cena’s performance as a villain and seemingly made his way officially to the Fast & Furious saga.

In an interview with GQ, was breaking down all of his most iconic roles and was able to reflect on his time with The Fast Saga, the actor expressed gratitude and praised its impressive evolution for nine years. Cena explained:

"Being able to be invited to the Fast franchise, it was awesome. I grew up on those movies, I love car culture, I love the fact that this movie, nobody saw it coming and it took the world by storm. I love how the franchise has evolved into this super almost weird superhero-without-cape spy movie, underground crime scene but good guy big caper, fight evil save the world type stuff. It's one of those franchises that truly listens to their audience, when their audience says they want something, even when they joke, 'What are they going to do, go to space?' Justin Lin's like, 'You're d-mn right we're going to space in a Pontiac Fiero.'

It's had enough installments now where the stakes are still serious, the characters are still well-developed, but in the same movie, you get winks to the camera. I really love the franchise and cast and crew, they're a family. You walk on the set, these people have been doing movies together for 20 years, I've never seen anything like that except in the WWE locker. This is a legacy, there's very few franchises that get to the ninth installment and still say they're kicking -ss."

The Fast and Furious Saga has transitioned from car racing to heists and international spies were seemingly loved by the fans. While John Cena reportedly won’t be reprising his role in the 10th film of The Fast Saga, DC’s Aquaman Jason Mamoa is officially replacing him.

Fast and The Furious 10 is set to hit theaters next year, 2023.
