Last week, we learned that Warner Bros. and DC Studios have pulled the plug on Wonder Woman 3, which has been in development for a while. The cancellation also marked the end of director Patty Jenkins' run in the DC franchise while Gal Gadot's tenure as the hero will remain (for now).
Since the news of the cancellation came, there have been additional reports regarding how it all went down including claims that Jenkins actually walked off the project instead of the studio canceling it. Now, the director finally opened up about her side of what actually happened in the situation.
Yesterday, Jenkins took to Twitter to address the reports regarding the circumstances of the cancellation of the project where she called it a "clickbait false story." She also clarified that she didn't walk away from the project and the cancellation was due to the changes in the DC franchise.
"When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me," she wrote.
"It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now."
Jenkins also reflected on her journey making the first two films and wished all the best for the legacy of the character in the future of the franchise.
"I do not want what has been a beautiful journey with WW to land on negative note," she added. "I have loved and been so honored to be the person who got to make these last two Wonder Woman films She is an incredible character. Living in and around her values makes one a better person every day. I wish her and her legacy an amazing future ahead, with or without me.
The director also gave a shoutout to Lynda Carter, Gal Gadot, and the fans for their support of the two films. She closed her statement with, "Keep up the Wonder Woman spirit. Any day that you face struggles, try asking: What would Wonder Woman do? I hope her beacon of love, truth, and justice is always there to lead the way for you, as she has done for me."
With all the alleged drama that was happening behind the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3, it is great to see Jenkins tell her side of the story as well as give her final words to the fans of the franchise now that she is no longer involved.
Now, all we need to do is wait and see what's next for the character of Wonder Woman in the DC franchise and whether Gadot will also remain in the role with the incoming changes.
